Rune Thorsen (b.1967), M.Sc. electrical engineering (1994), Ph.D. in Bioengineering (1997) from The Technical University of Denmark. From 1994-1997 working in a medical technology company (Asah Medico A/S) as an Industrial Ph.D. Fellow. Pursued postdoctoral studies at The University of Twente, The Netherlands (1998); Politecnico di Milano, Italy (1999); Salisbury District Hospital and University College London, England (2000); and finally the Foundation Don Carlo Gnocchi, Italy (2001-), as full researcher.
Research focus is on development of methods for rehabilitation of the physically challenged; in particular the use of myoelectrically controlled functional electrical stimulation (MeCFES) for restoring motor function following upper motor neuron lesions such as stroke and spinal cord lesion (SCL).
